What is the affect on histamine?Updated 2 months ago
In general coffee is very low in histamine content, and typically, coffee beans contain less than 100 micrograms of histamine per gram and in most people, the low levels of histamine should cause any noticeable effects. However, individuals with histamine intolerance or mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) may experience allergy-like symptoms.
While we do not measure the histamine content directly in our coffee, we do source premium Fair-Trade, Single-Origin Colombian coffee, and this high grade is associated with lower histamine levels.
Additionally, although there are no direct studies showing the effect of caffeine or paraxanthine on MCAS or histamine release, and while Px and caffeine are very similar chemically, our users report significant differences between their experience with caffeine vs. Px.
