Does Px affect Calcium levels in the body?Updated 2 months ago

To our knowledge, Px's effect on calcium levels in the body has not yet been studied in depth. However, given Px's relationship chemically to caffeine, the two are likely similar in this regard. Recent studies report that caffeine may result in a small amount of calcium excretion (4-5 mg per cup); however other studies report that the effect is different for each of the metabolites of caffeine. For most people this is likely a negligible effect but people who have low calcium intake or other health conditions may want to consult with their physician before consuming regular, caffeinated or Px coffee.'

Overall, caffeine has more evidence of negatively affecting calcium absorption and bone mineral density, particularly when intake is high and dietary calcium is insufficient. Paraxanthine on the other hand may have fewer negative effects on calcium homeostasis and bone health, but research is still limited.
